[B[/B]Hi, I had a car accident last year which was not my fault. I had a few various injuries, whiplash, back pain, minor head injury. The main one was a broken collar bone.
I was off work for the best part of a year because the bones healed in the wrong place. I eventually had to undergo an operation which left me with a very large and visable scar on my chest/ shoulder area. It has now been over a year and although I am back to work, my back is still giving me alot of pain.
I'm looking to hear from anyone who might know roughly how much I can expect to receive from the other parties insurers. I have already been paid out for my car (which was written off) and I am awaiting compensation for my loss of earings, but I have no idea what I may get for the injury and disfigurment.
I would be grateful for any ideas as I am now seriously in debt because of my losses.
Thanks

Hi,
Sorry to hear of your accident but thankfully you are back to work now.
I sont really have any experience myself in this. Is a solicitor working on your behalf? surely they should have some idea?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts

Yeah I do have a solicitor given to me through my car insurence but he is reluctant to name figures incase they don't come through for me. I have heard of people getting up to £5000 just for whiplash so I thought my injury and scar might be worth quite a bit. I just wondered if anyone else has been paid out for a similar injury?0 -
hi hun
It is really hard to put a price on an injury.
I worked for PI solicitors for 3 years and we had people asking all the time what their injuries were worth but it dependes on the prognosis you have been given.
You should have had a medical report done (probably by an Orthopaedic Consultant if you had broken bones) and he should have put in his report a date when he expects you to be recovered. This will form the basis of your award.
Also any psychological injuries and more minor injuries will be taken in to account i.e. the whiplash, bumps, bruises, etc.
The problem we always had was these bl00dy adverts that say "I got £5,000 for whiplash" because these are not entirely true - you will find anyone who got £5,000 for whiplash wouuld also have had psychological problems and other injuries going on.
I would say though that with the broken coller bone and other bits going on you should be looking at over £5k but I don't have an upper limit as I haven't seen your medical report oir know any circumstances surrounding the accident.
Hope this helps a bit

Yes I see what you mean.
I have had a medical report done, and am due to have another one done which should be the last. I have also been seen by a psychologist who has advised I go for cognitive behavioural therapy. The lasting damage seems to be my back ache and the large scar.
It does seem hard to put a price on things, and I will be waiting a few years anyway before I receive anything anyway. It's just if I had an idea of figures I may be able to borrow some money off my mum in order to keep my house.
Thanks for listening to all this!

If you are having money problems have you asked your solicitor to get you an interim payment ???
Because your injury is so bad tell your solicitor you are struggling financially and due to your injurues you should be able to get a couple of thousand out of the other sides insurers/solicitors. this money will be deducted from your final award though.
Also the CBT treatment is excellent. I had this following our accident in 2005 - it really did the trick !!!
Let me know if you need anymore help hun.
