I'm all out of ideas for getting a new job.

I'm not sure I have an options left unless I am missing something. You's will know how badly I want out of my current job which I have been trying to escape from for the past 12 months now.

I have registered on all the job websites and uploaded my CV, I have set up job alert emails, I signed up with the local agencies, I search the job centre website every day, I have sent speculative CV's, I have visited employers in person, I have redone my CV countless times.

And so far this has gotten me.

2 x Interviews for jobs that didn't even exist - the employers were just "testing the water"

I am all out of energy and ideas to be honest, would be easier just admitting I am stuck here until A - I get sacked or B - they go bust?

Or has anyone got any other ideas?

Do you want me to look over your CV for you? You can remove all identifying information if you want to.

Relocate to an area with more oportunity to land a job.

Commute to a larger town/ city - Belfast.

You mentioned in the past you were studying for a degree, has this came to fruition?

It's part time, I have another 3/4 years to do.

I've been looking to change jobs for about 2 years now and I've only had a couple of interviews. It's tough out there. Keep looking, keep applying but ultimately accept that you are fortunate to have a job - no matter how much you loathe it. It is so much worse for those that don't have jobs; they must get so disheartened.
  • When I was unemployed a few of years ago, I had a list of about 65 businesses and organisations with a local presence. I would look at some of these every day, and run through the entire list once a week. Some jobs are only advertised directly on a business's own website. Look at local newspaper websites too.

At that point in time, the Jobcentre website itself was pretty useless. A JSA advisor advised me to check a website called Indeed, which seems to pull together a lot of vacancies from other places.

Yep I have already signed up to Indeed and Jobrapido and similar idea to Indeed, they send me daily email alerts but if I look at today's offerings.

They're nearly all jobs that require a significant amount of previous experience.

I also went through Yell at one stage and found all local businesses I could apply for, I sent them CV's, I guess out of about 20-30 businesses I got 2 interviews for jobs that didn't actually exist, still not sure what the point in interviewing me was if they didn't have any jobs going.

I think as someone mentioned above the only options left are to relocate or to make do and with the local unemployment numbers rising every month its not going to get any easier.

Apply for jobs that require experience, the worst they can say is no. It an employers market, many are asking for far higher than they need, just to narrow down the amount of people who apply.

Falko, I've read your previous posts and understand that your job makes you thoroughly miserable and it's not very well paid. I'm of the opnion that your life and time are too precious to waste feeling like this all the time!

In view of the current job situation in your area, have you ever considered starting your own part time/spare time business? I don't know what your skills/interests etc are but even if you could build a small financial cushion for now, it may be something that you could develop and give up working for other people altogether!

I know the prospect of becoming self determining can feel a bit scary if you've relied on paid employment to survive but believe me, the pay off can be very worth it.

There are loads of people supplementing their incomes with part time stuff, maybe have a look round the Up Your Income board for some ideas? You never know where it might lead! :)

Alternatively, perhaps Falko should change his attitude to his job. Yes, he loathes it and yes, he feels bullied and maligned. However, if he changes his attitude as sees work as a means to an end, stop complaining, keep his head down, things might just improve.

Think you should be directing your comments to Falko rather than me. I'm just making suggestions.
