Presentation for a school based job HELP!!!!

Good evening

I have an interview Monday for a School Business Manager role in a large Primary. I have to do a presentation on:

The Government have announced a new funding initiative to encourage sport in schools. What are the options for using the money and how would you advise the Leadership Team on the use of it?

I'm finding this hard as although i could do the role i am not currently based in a school so would aprreciate some pointers.

So far I have:

Background:

As part of the Olympic legacy sports funding has been made available for Primary Schools

This funding is ringfenced and can only be spent on sports provision within the school

Funding available is an £8000 lump sum with a £5 pupil premium

Factors to take into account

Long term outcome –sporting habit for life

Inclusive

Budget

Use the funding to add value to learning

Time/curriculum/space constraints

Can links be established with community sports clubs?

Are staff on board?

Sustainability

The Children

Ask the children what sport they would like to see in the school

Children could present to classmates/staff what sport they play and why

For children who arenot keen on sport, find out why.

Develop taster sessions in school to see what is most popular

Must have the childrens engagement

Appointing sports ambassadors

Options for using the money
New equipment
equipmentfor new sports
Coachescoming into school

Investing in traditional and non-traditional sports

Takingpart in external events e.g. www.yourschoolsgames.com

Sports based outings

I think i'm on the right track but as for actually stating the equipment to buy or things to invest in - i am at a loss. I would be so, so grateful if anyone cuold give some input.

Thank you
xxxxxx

    Is it really ring fenced?

You could decide to use it for sporting activities already budgeted for which would release that money for something else? Radical but if the budget is tight then money as to be moved about.

I think it suggested schools and academies maybe grouping together- either for greater buying power or to get a joint resource - like a coach or running a joint programme.

Also look on ofsted website or any national reports on school sport and pe-there is a 2013 ofsted report on school pe that will highlight any issues currently. Look also at the school ofsted- does it mention sport or pe (unlikely if recent but maybe in past)

No, it is ring fenced and accountability will probably need to be factored in.

OP I think you are on the right track, but do you have a time constraint? That is a lot to cover.

Off the top of my head:

Could a member of staff be designated to oversee this?
    Monitoring progress
liaison with the feeder Secondary school
involvement of organisations in the local area in that sport.
Spend money wisely and for the good of the many
Ensure the particularly gifted in a specific sport are supported.

    Good luck

Liaison with your local athletic club - athletic coaches are virtually all volunteers and would probably be happy to give some time and effort to introduce the youngsters to the events within athletics. You could even hold your own mini Olympics...

Highly unlikely to be really ring fenced in reality. You audit what you already as budgeted in this area. Is there a need to do more? If not might chose to use the money to fund activities already identified in the budget freeing up money for other things.

It is 2 years funding. The aim is to skill up teachers to increase their skills- so any experts would ave to be doing this not just running a tivities. It needs to be sustainable.

I know as school with 30 virtually unsed violins on the ladies loo. bought with a grant- 1 teacher had a passion. No-one thought about the long term. teacher left-no-one else has skill and school as no money to buy in specialist teachers.

That is a way around things. As a school governor you do have to be very careful that you play by the rules.
