Tips for finding a good wage within Cornwall

Hello,
After working for a firm for 14 years I have the opportunity to leave via voluntary redundancy. Now this is a considerable amount (£17k) and I am only 32. My problem is finding a wage anything like I am on now (£25k although I do shift work).
My job is pretty much unskilled prodction work, so I had the intention of leaving to do IT support work. After doing a lot of studying I am now Comptia A+, Network+ and CCNA certified. I have also completed a BSC with the Open University, and due to finish my hons this year, all IT qulaifactions.
Even with my training and qualifications I'm struggling to find a suitable job in the IT sector, due to poor wages (usually in the £12k to £18K range). So I can see myself leaving for an IT role. To be honest I'm not too fussy what the job is but would just like something nearer my current wage to justify leaving.
Any ideas?

Can you relocate?0

No relocation is not practical, I have a young family here. I'm tempted to give up on the IT altogether now, what a waste of time

I was in IT in that county .... only options are to keep lookng/hoping, take a lower salary or get out.
I think the Penryn area has some firms. Otherwise it's public sector - so could be years.
Which bit are you in?
Or, you could go self-employed, doing computer stuff evenings/weekends until you're established.
I did manage to get an IT job down that way for £25k 15 years ago - but that was a fluke and I'd previously been earning £50k for the same job up country.0 -
I seen the Computeach and Circo adverts on TV years ago and thought that was something I could eventually do. After visitng the local college and a career advisor I signed up to my first course. Now the TV adverts exaggerated the wage potential significantly (in Cornwall anyway), and the career advisor did not help I feel he just pushed me on to to a course. I guess its my fault I should have checked job opptunities before embarking on a long study path.
Any way I now have a young family so am not in a posistion to take a long term pay cut. So am not worried about an IT position anymore, I'd be happy with a £20k job with potentional to increase over time. But even this appears to be a problem down here without suitable skills
. I have until the 30th of April to sign up, decisions decisions. 0 -

Something I have found is wages have dropped considerably, rather than giving existing employees wage cuts employers are starting new employees on close to the min wage, jobs that maybe paid £15 -£18K now min wage. To be honest you will struggle to find anything near what your currently on.0 -

Yes that is my exact problem, there is no point in leaving taking a big pay cut as in a few years that redundacy money would be gone due to earning less. Really wish I never started this IT training now, money and hours spend with nothing to show other than qulaifications
