When Abbey became Santander in Jan 2010,

should those on fixed rate Abbey mortgages have been given the opportunity to change?
[I'm just coming off a five year Abbey deal which began in 2008, had I been able to change in 2010 when rates were significantly lower than in 2008 I certainly would have done so]

No. They shouldn't.
When your/their fixed rate ended, you/they had the same opportunity to change lenders as anyone else had. Santander honoured the terms and conditions of Abbey borrowers and your fixed rate and payments were also honoured, I expect?I am a mortgage broker. The fact that the Abbey was bought by Santander. Did not change your contractual 5 year fixed term product.0
