Skin regime?

I got a voucher for a local beautician’s recently as a present so I decided to treat myself to a facial beauty treatment, which I’d never had done before.
It was lovely but it’s not something I could really justify paying for on a regular basis, not at the moment anyway. I will definitely have one again in the future though.
The beautician said I need to start a “skin regime” in the form of cleanser, toner and moisturiser in the mornings and evening as I have blackheads/spots but also my skin is dry. Now, I know my skin has been crap recently due to bad diet, usually it’s much clearer and I’m working on getting my diet back on track to help it (along with my overall health!
)
One thing that struck me though, do other people have a “skin regime”? I don’t really, I wash my face in the morning with a mild facial scrub cream and then moisturise. Then wash my face before going to bed. I am 26, but have fairly good skin and I do strongly believe that diet has a lot to do with how your skin looks.
Should I take better care though? It seems a bit of unnecessary (and pricy)? Of course it didn’t help that the things she recommended cost a fortune!

One thing I have started to do is apply 5 star suncream on my face everyday. I understand that UVA rays cause aging - so this is much more effective than anti- wrinkle creams.
I also have dry skin so moisturise every night. I too love facials but they are so expensive. I have a v E cream mask thing I sometimes put on whilst showing which improved the feel of my skin, but not really like a routine. Sounds like she was after commission on the products!0 -
I think if you're lucky enough to have good skin, then you probably don't need to do much more than you're doing now. I have problem skin, so I need to make sure I cleanse really thoroughly and moisturise.
You might want to think about using a moisturiser which contains sunscreen, as it's supposed to be effective in preventing lines and wrinkles in years to come.0 -

That is a skin regime you have right there, tho it's probably a bit heavy on drying/ irritating products if your skin is struggling at present. If you over exfoliate you damage the skin's barrier function - this keeps bacteria out and water in.
You might switch to a gentle moisturiser which contains a physical sunscreen, micronised zinc oxide is great for spots and irritation and is non whitening. Personally I don't use anything containing sulphate surfactants, alkaline soaps, toners nor proper exfoliants daily, all can irritate my sensitive skin. Since changing I have less dehydration and fewer blackheads.
Instead I use a really basic lotion cleanser washed off with warm water and a muslin cloth, then a moisturiser or sunscreen based on gentle natural ingredients. Sometimes I exfoliate with dilute lactic acid which is found in healthy skin and hydrates as it exfoliates. Also sometimes I use a face mask containing lanolin (Rene Guinot masque essentiel) which makes my pores invisible and my skin glow.
Would agree good skin starts from the inside, get your oily fish intake up and sugars/ white refined carbs down.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I agree about exfoliating. I do it once a week, a mask once a week and twice a day use a mild face wash and moisturiser.0

Can't help with the regime, but if you have a college nearby you can often get a facial there quite cheap. Mine charge £11.95 for a variety of different facials, £23 for a microdermabrasion.0

In my opinion it's essential to have a skin regime. If you have a proper skin regime, then it helps the skin to maintain the glow. I agree with unschooler that it's best to start with a mild face wash and moisturizer.0

Thanks for all the suggestions people

I think probably using my face scrub cream every day isn't doing me any good (even though it is supposedly "mild") so I got a gentle cleansing cream which I used previously felt great.
My moisturiser has SPF in it, but can't remember off the top of my head how much. If it's too low I might maybe see about getting a better one, especially with the better weather underway.
I am starting to feel really conscious about my skin as I've been quite stressed lately and it's been showing on my face! (Along with poor diet, again stress-related more than anything). I will look into getting more oily fish, I know I don't eat anywhere near enough of this.
I will see how it goes, thank you all for your input! I work mostly with guys so can't really discuss these sort of things with them
