Selling would-be ebay items on your own website - legalities?

Comments

  • It would help to keep your eBay listing and help drive customers to your website. There are no restrictions on what you can and cannot sell on your own website (unless the obviously prohibited ones) and as long as your product descriptions are detailed and your return policy is clear, it will help you achieve more sales. :)

As others have said, as long as you comply with all relevant legislation (ie identifying who they are buying from, that these are personal secondhand items, what returns policy is etc) then you would be fine.

HMRC, TS, OFT etc may become interested if they receive complaints etc but as long as you can substantiate you are only liquidating your own personal items and not buy/ selling for profit etc then it'll be a formality.

Whilst you may want to do this as a hobby you will certainly not be better off -v- simply listing them on eBay when you factor in your time to the equation.

Try shifting your stuff on your local Facebook selling pages, things seem to go quite well on ours.
No fees, (at the moment, not sure how long it will remain that way).
I've sold lots more on FB than ebay in the past year or so.

I think the fact that so many traders sell on ebay says something about it being a good way to do business.
Trying to rank a page on Google1 for just one item you are selling is going to be pretty time consuming!
