Should I be concerned?

Approximately three months ago, I realised that my employer had been deducting tax for a Health Insurance policy I had not had with them for over three years. Realising via an on-line salary tax calculator that I'd been paying out about £7 a month in additional tax, I contacted my employers salary Dept. They realised the mistake and I received a rebate within my February Salary for the current financial year (06/07)., which looked to be correct, by my calculations.

I then contacted my tax office in regard to overpayments for 04/05 & 05/06, who acknowledged the claim and told me it would take up to eight weeks to deal with.

I called yesterday and was seriously questioned over why I thought I had a rebate due to me? They stated that they thought I might have underpaid! I was told they would write to me requesting my current P60 and I should return it for them to investigate.

Anyway, this morning I received a letter headed "Income Tax Repayment" asking me to send them my P60. It says "You may be due a repayment of Income Tax", but after yesterday's conversation, is this just a ruse to get me to comply immediately?

There is no mention of previous years tax rebates and I am confused as to why this is not mentioned?

Anyone know what I should do next?

I have applied and received rebates in the past and have found HMRC nothing but helpful and efficient, especially when it comes it previous years. Personally I would send in your P60 with a covering letter, as they will already have your previous years tax info from the P14s.

Out of interest, was the health cover not on your P45 every year?
