Needs some advice after walking out of work

Hi all!
Ok let me give you a bit of background, i have been in my job well over 5 years, but yesterday i reached the end of my tether and i have walked out, i need some advice on what i do next. Please note that im currently considering myself resigned and have no desire to go back there.
Basically what happened yesterday was my immediate manager spoke and acted towards me in a manner in which i found to be threatening, intimidating and utterly unacceptable. I immediately left work stating that i will not be returning as long as he is still there, when i got home i contacted one of the general managers of the company, who i let know what had happened and what my rationale was for leaving, he said for me to not go back today (actually Yesterday) and he would be in touch, as yet he hasnt.
Im just wondering where i stand legally? If anyone could give me some advice, i would be very grateful
Cheers
Jimbob

Submit a formal written grievance and make sure you say why you feel you cannot go into work.
That is unless you really want to resign. If so, write that letter today and look another job.
Good luck.Opinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response.

Can you explain what you mean by the threatening behaviour.
Are you sure you don't need to go back?
You should submit something in writing and not rely on verbal contact.
Also be aware of the risk you could be sanctioned for any jsa claim."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -

Telling me to "Sit down and shut the !!!! up" in a meeting, banging the hell out a table in said meeting and shouting at me to "walk out, !!!! off and come back when I tell you too" (Charming fellow)
I have already started applying for other jobs, i have no desire to go back, would it be worth contacting my GM via email giving my resignation and asking for all correspondence to be done online?
@ paddedjohn: Ok, tried calling and left a voicemail
@ blckbrd: Thanks for your advice0 -
Situations like this - whatever course you choose -back it up in writing.Opinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response.

Assuming that your immediate manager doesn't own the company (as my advice would be different) then you cannot just "disappear" - whether you want to resign or not.
Try to get hold of your GM - if you can't leave them a message and also e-mail them today. Say that you want a meeting with them on Monday.
You also need to raise a greivance against your immediate manager - are you in a Union ?
Just walking away after 5 years is not the answer (easy for me to say I know ....) - your manager needs to change their behaviour or you need to transfer to another department if possible - even if this is only an interim measure until you find another job.0 -
5 years of employment history. You'll probably need a reference.
I would put grievance in writing, resign if you wish. You could alternatively claim they out you in a position that you had no choice but to leave as you were being verbally abused.0 -
DO NOT RESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did I say DO NOT RESIGN?
Write to your GM, and explain everything that led to you walking out, explain that you felt threatened and intimidated and has to leave for your own safety. Then write a full grievance, be calm, truthful and factual. Explain that you are not prepared to return until they can guarantee your safety.
DO NOT RESIGN!!!
If you walk out of your job, FOR ANY REASON, an employment tribunal could penalise you for not following the correct grievance procedure.
Have a brew, write everything down TODAY and send it in.
Post here if you want someone to look over it, pm me if you like.
I am off work on full pay as my company doesn't know its !!! from its elbow, and has been the case for over 2 months. Play the game smartly and to your benefit - not theirs.
Phil.
PS DO NOT RESIGNLife - It's only a once in a lifetime experience.0 -
