Dumb salary question

So I've worked in the same place for 13 years - I'm starting a new job on May 1st. I'm working in my current role at my employer until next friday 26th and then 2 days holiday to bring me up to the end of the month. So when I get paid (monthly) next Friday is that my last salary from my old employer?
And then I will get paid at the end of May by my new employer? I had it in my head that you got paid in arrears but is that only for weekly work? So confused! And worried I will be going a month without pay!!

It depends, some pay a month in arrears, some pay on the 25th for the month you are in.
When you started your job, did you have to wait a month to get paid or did they pay you in the first month?
The same will apply for your new employer, just ask them

Thanks Phil - well I started 13 years ago so really can't remember if I had to wait or not! All I know about new employer is it is paid on 25th of month - hopefully for the month we are in :S Just wondered what the norm was - will have to dig out the contract.0

Some companies sort out their pay the week before - so when you're paid on the 25th, you're getting paid for work done up until the 18th, if you see what I mean. So you may only get 3 weeks wages in your first month depending on how they do it. I've always had this done, but I've been paid by the hour which may be why.
If you've got a proper annual wage it may be different, I don't know.0 -
Look at your contract of employment for both jobs, very often you are paid part (usually 2 weeks) in advance and part (2 weeks) in arrears. What date/day of month are you paid on for both jobs? That way you can work out what you'll get... unlikely you will go a whole month without anything?0
