Why not take a day trip over to France and buy it over there. You will save yourself a fortune particularly if you go to Champagne itself, and buy direct from one of the wineries. Plus it's a good excuse for a visit to France.

    Hi Airforce_ beret,

    ooh, expensive job these weddings!

I'm no wine expert but my brother has a good "nose" for a decent wine!

He produced Lindauer Brut one Christmas and it was really nice (and I'm not keen on wine generally). You wouldn't know it's not the real mccoy, though it's a little less dry than many champagnes.

It's available at Tesco's £7.99 for 75cl bottle. No doubt other places sell it too.

Could you buy Magnums to cut down on corkage?

We're having Tesco champagne for the toasts at our Wedding, it's very good for the price and has won awards. For the welcome drinks we're having M&S prosecco, which I really like. We're lucky though, our venue is only charging us £5 a bottle for bubbly and £3 a bottle for wine. It's unlicenced though, so we have to provide our own drink!

    Hi
Give Hailshan Cellars a ring 01323 441212 re the Sarcey. I know they supply it. Ask for Steve, very helpful. They may offer you a sample. We used this a party a little while ago, very good, and it was on sale or return so there where no worries of buying to much. If you wanted a good sparkling as good as Champagne they have Bouvet @ £8.50, made in the same way by Tattinger but not in the Champagne region.

I organised a champagne reception a while back, and it turned out to be cheaper to go to France on a booze cruise and stock up there.

I think you can go online and order from Tesco France and pick it up there. It will also let you compare prices.

Tesco stuff is pretty good for the price, in my opinion!

Also, check out the ubiquitous Oddbins "6 for 5" deals.

Is the problem with the lable on the Tesco champagne saying "supplied by Tesco" or whatever, or is the probelem to do with the actual champagne.

Unless you are a wine expert it is very unlikely that you will be able to taste the difference between a branded champagne and and own lable champagne (often there is not any difference....) if you are talking vintage then that is a different matter.

If the lable is the problem then look at Aldi - they actually stock a pretty good champagne (I had a bottle last night inthe bath!) which is very drinkable and had no Aldi markings on the bottle.

Check out the article - branded champagne actually scores far lower than most of the non branded!

I also get my champagne supplied via a vineyard in Fance (via my Father in Law)- the vineyard actually supply 2 very expensive stores in London with their own lable champagne, but they also sell direct to some people too.
Try a search on google - something like this....http://www.champagne-cellar.co.uk/prices.html
