What if you go over the £10k in a pension

Options
I've read thru many of the threads here and there seems to be a 'best rule' to try and get a £10k pension (per person) and then get your money outside (ISA etc) but I have been told I have a pension build up of £12.5k within my final salary and still have 10-17 years still to go.
I am above high tax rate by about £8k (or 20-21% and contribute upto 30% into my company pension scheme). I can continue the 1/60th build up and retire at 60 at £8.5% - is this the best option.
What should I be doing with the rest - at the moment I am paying the excess (to the 21% into the company AVC which is returning 10% at the moment).
I have also started ISA saving for myself and wife (money at the moment but plan extra stocks once my mortgage ends later this year).
My wide has a smaller council pension but hopefully about 30/60th of a £20k final salary at 60 (so £10k again). Plus state pensions at 65!
Are we over pensioned or once you go past the £20k might as well go as much as possible?
Where next? Should I be paying the 40% and moving it into ISA more?

The next tax "barrier" after 10k is the 21k point at which they start to withdraw age allowaqnce, so you are probably wise to aim to keep taxable income below that level and divert additional saving into investment ISAs.

AVcs are very inflexible: you can only take them at the same time as your company pension.A personal pension/SIPP would be more flexible, if you need the tax relief.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
