You will find no "auto logout time" setting in your UserCP. This is a forum-wide setting. As a rule of thumb try to move around the forums, from page to page, at least once every 15 minutes. Or you may be logged out.
There are actually a number of reasons why you might become logged out. In the vast majority of cases it's done as a precautionary measure. It's actually for your protection. These precautions prevent other users stealing your online identity. Unfortunately this means they are necessary and we cannot relax these rules.
I appreciate being logged out can be irritating but I hope than under the circumstances you can accept these precautions as a necessary evil.

Oh dear, I really should have left this until after I'd had 2 large cuppas! I read it as I could find a button to adjust log-out time and have just spent ages searching in my CP :eek::rotfl:!

Appreciate the security issues, but nothing I was doing was different than any other day, i.e. working though pages, opening threads I wanted to enter, then hitting "Back."

some days i can stay logged in for ages then another day it logs me out on/off randomly.please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
Facebook just did this about ten minutes ago- I was in the middle of reading something too!
No obvious reason for it either, which is annoying.
But MSE has stopped doing it-or so it seems *fingers crossed*
