This is a shocker!!!
I have paid my full balance off MBNA today....so cancelled my DD as it isn't due out of the bank until 26 May...so I phoned MBNA to tell them I'd cancelled my DD and wait for it they say they are going to charge a £12 fee for returned DD....how can that be when I've paid them in full before the DD date...which is a week away!!!
She then said afterwards she'd cancel it when it came in...how can I trust her

What a pain taxi - did you get her name? I would think they will record calls so you should be okay, hopefully."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

Thats rubbish shes told you as they dont request a DD until approx two days before its due so they havent even initiated it yet. I would ring them back tomorrow and question this.0

My sentiments exactly Nodebtfor me....she was saying that they ask for a DD 7 days in advance...I always thought it was 2 days...I want to speak to a manager tommorrow and I'm def cancelling the card even though I have until sept !st at 0%...I'm fuming..0

I had exactly the same experience with Egg - not only did I end up getting charged £12 for refusal of a £0 direct debit, but when I queried it and asked for the money back, I got a blanket refusal saying it was within the credit agreement! I promptly closed down the Egg card account!!!
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

MBNA should honour what they said. I never received a statement in December until 5 days before payment was due. Due to Christmas hols the payment was a day late. Phoned Customer Services and explained the situation and they didn't charge me a late payment.
Hope it is ok. If not, phone them again.0
