Previous Addresses

Hello,
I'm new here but my Mum is a huge fan of MSE.
I am looking to arrange a mortgage. I'm a FTB with 25% deposit. My credit history is fine, but I have a problem.

I've always kept my bank accounts, mobile phone, etc registered at my parents address (seen as my 'permanent address') since I was a student, as it seemed easier that way (moving every year with job) and I was advised that it'd be better for my credit history. However, I now run into trouble when trying to arrange a mortgage as if they search where I have actually been living (which I see as 'temporary addresses'), nothing comes up (as I didn't have anything financial registered there.) It's not a bad score - it's a score that doesn't exist. Without a credit score, I can't get a mortgage, but my credit score at my 'permanent' address is fine.

Any ideas as to ways around this? Should I even mention the temporary addresses at all?

Thanks for your help.

Simple, use your parents' address for the application. One thought! Are you on the electoral role at any address?
  • I've always been at my parents' address for that too.

    Thanks for your speedy reply!

Failure not to declare the proper information amounts to fraud.

As a a starter register onto the electoral roll where you live now. To at least make yourself "legal".
  • I'm slightly alarmed that you mention fraud.
I go back to my parents often for periods of time. According to the electoral commission website, residency has not been defined by law but is taken to mean 'a considerable degree of permanence.'
I'd argue that this arrangement, particularly as all my financial information relates to there, is significantly more permanent than short term rents required due to having to move frequently with my job.

By failing to declare your actual places of residence on the mortgage application form that's what you would be doing.

A lender will automatically assume that your are attempting to hide something. If you make a false declaration. Whether you have or not anything to hide is irrelevant. As by lying you've broken the bond of trust between you and the lender making any business relationship untenable.
