Hi can anyone help here? My son is going to university this September 2013. We were sent financial forms to complete for year 2011-2012 (which we completed), our income in the last tax year 2012-2013 has dropped by 30%. Instead of sending us forms to complete for 2012-2013 SFE have sent us forms for 2013-2014 and asked us to estimate what our earnings will be?? I have explained that this would be impossible as we run a business and draw dividends if in profit and the figure could be lower or higher than the last tax year. But the point is why should our son be financially penalised by us estimating an income for next year when we have all the figures showing 30% less in 2012-2013 compared with the figures the SFE have asked for in 2011-2012? Also other students loans are based on 2011-2012. None of this makes sense; anyone else in this situation? Oh and when I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager I was told they were busy and would phone back in 3 working days!!

I'm going to university this year and I'm in the same situation. As my parents earn so much - it automatically means that they will support me. *end sarcasm* They've never supported me, and nor would I want them too.
Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done, it is what it is, the guidelines have been around for years and I can't see them changing any time.0
