We have been invited to the evening reception of a neighbours daughter.

I know they would like money as gift. What amount would you consider appropriate?

the amount you give is really up to you and its very difficult to put a figure on it without knowing you and your situation or indeed how well you know the couple

A good way to measure what you should spend is...imagine if they had a book of gifts to choose from what would you choose to buy...is that a gift to the value of £10,£20,£25 £50...or more....

The choice is yours and whatever you feel comfortable with giving...

I am sure even if it is just a card with a token amount or even no money the bride and groom will be happy you joined them for their celebration

    2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend

I did not expect any gifts from evening only guests but we did receive some, ranging from £20 to £50 (some were vouchers and some had bought things off our gift list so we knew how much they cost). TBH I felt this was extremely generous and would have been perfectly happy with just a card from evening guests :)

I am sure as an evening guest nothing would be expected and so anything would be lovely.

If the invitation is just for you, I would say £10.00 and if it's for you plus guest I would double to £20.00.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Think about how much you would pay for a meal out and some entertainment and give them that. Sounds fair to me.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

We didn't expect anything for ours and only did a list as we were getting hassle from friends. For an evening guest I'd say easily the £20-30 mark or maybe have a look at their list (if they have one too) and choose a smaller item off that.

Thank you for your help, we will be happy to give them a gift, an are delighted to be invited to join their evening reception.

You have all pointed me in the right direction. Thanks again!
