Removing a default from credit file?

Hi All,

i have a great credit history except for a default incurred last september for £800 with Lloyds TSB. Thi has been satisfied extremely quickly but my chances of getting a mortgage or slim. Can anyone recoomend anything st all that can be done to remove this or help my credit score grow in a hurry?

Is there a way to remove by paying for early removal? Claims?

For info it was my own fault - an old account from 2003 that was interest free for 5 years and I forgot about it. I moved house a couple of times so I never received the correspondance.

Thanks in advance for any help at all.

If you agree that the debt was owed and the default was legit, sorry yu have absolutely no chance of having it removed, whatever you do.

It will be there for 6 years in England and 5 in Scotland.

It does make me wonder, having re read your post why it took so long to get the default onto your file.

Perhaps more people will be along after work to help.

Thought as much. Just wondered if there was anything at all I could try. Do people know when your credit score starts improving after a default has been satisfied?

    Cheers

Unfortunately the emphasis is on you to inform your lenders that you have moved and that they have the correct details.

Defaults will stay on your file for 6 years but have less impact after 3.

Make sure you have an impeccible credit history from now by keeping out of any arranged overdraft and paying back credit cards in full and on time and things will improve.

Does this mean it's most likely a minimum of 3 years before I can get a mortgage now?

Also you mention arranged overdrafts - I have a small one on my current account. Is it worth getting rid of this then for credit file purposes?

    Thanks

Achieving a mortgage will be dependent upon your loan to value. If you can get a 15% deposit with 2 years from the default registration date, then you may have a chance.

May also be worth getting your Experian, Equifax and Call Credit reports if you have moved a bit.

    All the best
