Basic Bank Account application declined?

Hi,
I went bankrupt around 3 weeks ago and opted to open up a Barclays Basic Bank account this morning.
My application was declined - is this common? I thought that it was a standard account with no credit search.
The only other account is a CO-OP account - given that Barclays declined my application what do you think its likely they will also decline? Any advise will be greatly appreciated?

Hi i havent gone BR yet just getting a house sorted first , my credit history is very bad i applied online with lloyds and within 2 days had a cash card and account no ect very good . I had also applied to yorkshire bank prior to this didnt hear anything for weeks and 2 days after i got my lloyds card i get a yorkshire bank card . To be honest lloyds has a better website for internet banking and money tracking thing so you can see where your money goes . Yorkshire bank i like because if i pay by switch it comes out the bank instantly so no nasty suprises a week or so later when you forgot you spent money on your card . i think i will go back to lloyds when i go BR0

Co-op have now changed their rules and unfortunately they will now no longer accept undischarged Bankrupts. Hopefully someone else will be able to offer some advice on where else you can apply.
Good Luck!0 -
Thanks for the response... Oh well - looks like my salary will have to be paid into someone else's account until next April.0

Any reason given for the decline? Are you 100% sure it was put through as for the basic account? Bank staff do not always do so.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Are you sure they tried to open a basic account and not a current account? It has not been unknown for that to happen. Go back in and check and if it was the basic get them to appeal it and you should get it.

Unfortunatly as already said Co-op will no longer accept you as you are undischarged.
Why are you just sorting out your accounts now? Why not before BR?Hi i havent gone BR yet just getting a house sorted first , my credit history is very bad i applied online with lloyds and within 2 days had a cash card and account no ect very good . Lloyds will most likely freeze your account when they hear you are BR. You may be lucky and they might let you keep it. The same with the Yorkshire Bank.
The only two accounts that are definitly BR friendly are the Barclays Basic and Co-op Cashminder. Have a read of the Bank Account sticky.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0
