Don't know whether this is the best place to ask, but...
Got married last week and looked at the marriage certificate for the first time after getting home from honeymoon, and its not the one we signed. Our names are handwritten, by the registrar I assume. Is this normal?

Your marriage certificate is a copy of the entry in the register which is what you signed.0

So is it normal not to sign the copy that you keep? My parents showed me theirs which is signed, but that was 30 years ago.0

In a Church wedding you sign in the registration book, then the vicar writes out your certificate, which you don't then sign. So yes this is normal, the certificate is just a copy. Technically you can get multiple copies if needed.Officially Mrs B as of March 2013

When you "signed the register" how many times did you sign?
Our certificate has our signatures on because we signed 2 documents...One was the marriage regiser and the other a copy certificate.
The marriage register is the absolute official document and shows all the marriages that take place at that venue...if youve signed a second certificate thats your copyfrugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Oooh interesting! Ours is the original certificate, written out by the vicar on the day, but we didn't sign that we just signed the two entries in the big books that stay in the church.
maybe it varies! what i meant though was the entry in the books is the big official bit, the certificate you get is sort of a copy of that if that makes sense?Officially Mrs B as of March 2013
