in Cutting tax
Hello,
I left employment in December 2012. I was claiming JSA upto April 2nd 2013.
This is the first time ever I have looked into a rebate.
from what I have looked up on the net, and from my P45 when I left employment, I am due a few hundred pounds.
Can anyone advise and confirm if they believe I am correct?
tax code: 810L | personal allowance: £ 8105
Employment earnings April 12 - Dec 12: £ 16184.69
Income tax paid in employment: £ 2155.60
JSA contribution based income Dec 12 - April 13: £ 1136
Total income for 12/13 tax year = £17320.69
Taxable income = Total - PersonalAllowance = £9,215.69
20% of £ 9215.69 = £ 1843.14
total tax paid (not including tax paid on JSA) = £ 2155.60
so based on that, I have overpaid by £ 312.46 (at least)
as i know I pay tax on JSA too, just havent had a p60 from DWP.
Can anyone advise if I am correct before I phone for a claim pack?
Thanks in advance

Provided that they have the full tax details if you are on JSA they would make any rebate due either when your JSA ended or after the tax year end whichever came first. Not sure which would apply to you as you say "I was claiming JSA upto April 2nd" and later "JSA contribution based income Dec 12 - April 13"0

Yes, I was claiming contribution based JSA from December 2012 (when employment ended) and April 2013 (when my I closed my JSA)0

Still not sure when your JSA ended but if before 5 April I would expect you to get a P45 and a tax rebate if 5 April or later then a P60 and tax rebate (the rebate part assuming Jobcentre has your full tax details) When you get either the P45 or P60 post up the details and someone will check to see if any tax due back.0 -
I mentioned it in my first original post
"Hello,

2nd of April I closed my JSA account.
Ok, thanks for your help. As it was before the 5th of April, I guess i'm waiting on a P45 from the DWP then.0 -
You can work it out for your self.
Add all earnings including JSA up together.
Deduct £8105 and see what the difference is.
You should pay 20% tax on the difference. Compare this amount with the amount of tax you have actually paid. If you have paid more than that, then the difference is the tax refund you should get.
Simple as that reallymake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
You don't need a ;claim pack' all you do these days is ring them up, it can al be done over the phone.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Hello,
My apologies I was reading April 13 as April 13th not April 2013. However you do seem to have picked out the bit that you need though The Jobcentre do not allways act in the way you would expect an employer to act (some employers do not either) so still possible that they may issue a P60. All you can do is hang on untill you get something as either they will refund or you will need the P whatever to reclaim.0 -
Job Centre will supply you with a P45 now your JSA has ended. HMRC will need this to process your refund.
You might need to complete a p50 form to get the refund due.0
