  • I would contact your local FE College and ask if they provide it. Or try the SIA website and search for local courses to you.

There is funding for people on JSA for some training, there are criteria so best to discuss locally at FE Colleges.

Do you have ELCAS credits from the Army, many colleges accept these for courses.

If you are ex-forces, do you still have contact with CTP? If so, they should be able to help you.

I think Saintjammyswine’s got some good ideas there. In addition to this - have you spoken to your Jobcentre Plus Adviser yet? It’s always worth checking whether there’s something available in your area. A meeting with a local National Careers Service Adviser who’s familiar with your area could uncover some new ideas too. Could there be a regional initiative that may not be available nationally I wonder?

It might be worth contacting Skills for security on 01905 744000. They’re the sector skills body responsible for the private security industry and they’re a not-for-profit organisation. They offer information, advice and guidance to employers, employees and trainers. They may be able to point you in the right direction.

It’s also worth checking if you are eligible for the Professional and Career Development Loan. It’s possible that it could be used to top up the funding you have already and can be used for other financial commitments that need to be considered whilst you’re on the course. It is a loan, which means you have to pay it back, but if you’re struggling to find anything else it’s worth considering. There’s some general funding advice on the DIRECT.GOV website including a section on the PCDL, as it’s known.

I see you can get £1000 funding from the Army. Can I ask... what are the total course costs? I did a quick search and the costs vary considerably!

Come back and let us know how you get on.

    Good luck!
