You might need to be a bit more specific!

Do you mean fields of work than generally pay the highest or particular positions that are vacant now that you could apply for?

i have seen USA lists that say Surgeons, Air Traffic controllers etc. Im 23 and stuck in a dead end job. think its time to get the finger out.

Every job ive dreamed of has gone t1ts up. for example,
Pilot - My eyesight went outside of the required boundaries. -4.75ish now.
Singer - Contracted RRP, a disease on the vocal chords and lost the high end of my voice. Studied Music for 3 years for nothing.
DJ - Same as above. Not a good idea when i have no idea when it might strike again and il lose my voice.

Id love to become a property developer. BUT i no if i buy a house with the intention to do it up. My parents will want me out of theres!

SO. Looks like il have to bite the bullet and go and studying something else. AS i have run out of ideas id like a list of profesions that are high paying. Nothing medical though.

Lawyers, accountants, investment bankers, stockbrokers, successful salespeople (especially corporate), ... plumbers... sorry, don't know of any proper lists though I'm sure they're out there.

It may not be the best way to pick a career though... think about what sorts of things you are possibly suited to, then if it's important to you compare their relative pay scales as part of the decision process, maybe.

Money isn't everything. If you go into a profession just for the money, you are setting yourself up for a very unhappy career.
    Gone ... or have I?

I don't think choosing a career purely based on how much you will be paid is very sensible at all.

You need to think about what you are good at and what you would like to do. Then within those areas maybe head towards the type of jobs that pays the best in that field.

Also the jobs the above posters have listed obviously in some cases take years of study, where you will be paid little or nothing and if you're only in it for the money I doubt you'll have the passion to see it through till the end.

Plus if any interviewer even gets a sniff that you are only in it for the money - you won't stand a hope in hell of getting a job!

I agree on the whole. Only exception may be for a sales job where commission/bonus form a big part of the pay and the recruiter thinks that money is the best motivator for outstanding performance.

Yes, although lets be honest I don't think the OP's particular skills set would make him / her a great salesman!

There is always the other option of 'start at the bottom and working your way up to a high paying job', I know someone who started out working in a call centre for want of something better to do and then utilised his IT skills to work his way up and now less than 10 yrs later he is head of IT for a very large well known company... he worked hard at something he enjoyed as a hobby and found he could make a very good salary from it.... He still enjoys working with the computers even though now he has people working for him....

I would say ignore the idea of picking a career in accordance to pay level. At the end of the day, you will be paid well in most paths IF you learn, work hard and rise to the top. Similarily if you don't you won't. Also pay structures in different careers flutuate in accordance with the no of people who can do the work, plummers is a perfect example, at the moment they earn ok, in another 5 years, could be completely different. However, if you are a good plummer you will always be able to demand high salary. Same with my profession, as it's effected heavily be boom and bust, sometimes there is plenty of work and everyone is well paid, other times mass unemployment.

At 23 you have a long way to go in a career, so choose what you think you will either be good at, or what you will enjoy then I am sure the salary will come.
