NHS Job Question

Hi,
I have applied to work at my local NHS hospital in an admin position.
Is it easier to get picked for an interview if you have relatives who work in the same hospital?
Also, I have worked for the same hospital previously on a temporary assignment via an agency, will this be of interest to them when shortlisting candidates?
Experience wise, I have plenty of this in numerous roles throughout my working life to date.
I have also advised them of my qualifications in customer service and admin and also my current open uni degree in business which I do around my full time job (in sales/advertising at the moment)
Thanks in advance.

It should not make any difference whether you have relatives that work within the hospital. If you have worked there previously then that should of course go on your application.
Often the problem with NHS jobs is that once the job reaches 50 applicants, the job is closed, regardless of whether the applicants applied are suitable - I think this is terrible but it's the way it is.0 -

I sent off my application 4 days before the cut off date and it was advertised up until the 15th April and now I can't see it anywhere on the jobsite, will my application have made it to them and will count?0 -
Are you registered with and did you apply via NHS jobs website? If so, they will keep you updated with everything. They tell you that your application has been sent to the employer and then they will contact you if you have been successful.
Good luck

I did, yes and I have just emailed them and they advised me that when the candidates have been shortlisted for and interview they will notify me whether I have been successful or not.
Heres hoping!!
Thanks for all your advice :beer:0 -
It should not make any difference whether you have a family member working their or not. However, If you have a family member on the same department it could help if they are a good worker or are in a higher position. If you are a friend of the admin team that could help. In reality its supposed to be a fair crack but its not.
On one of our wards there are 3 family members working, how did one of them get a job without any past experiance??? you work it out.
Also I have put in good words for people, not family members howevers and they have got the job. Was that on merit? we will never know. I know my wife has put in a good word for one of her friends who was laid off from a previous job so never worked for the NHS ever. She got the job, was that on merit? we will never know.
Word of mouth is a good thing if you are a good worker and the person who is putting in the word has to be a good worker too for it to have any chance of filtering through. All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -
Interesting comment about the application ceiling, I saw a job advertised on there last week in the morning and at ten that night when I went back to apply it was gone :O Now I am like a greyhound chasing a rabbit!0

You generally find on the NHS job site some jobs say application stays open until enough applicants are found. A hospital 30 miles from me had an job offer on the NHS website for a porter, 800 people applied! All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -

I understand where you are coming from.
I have a cousin who is a radiographer at the local hospital and also my auntie has worked for the same hospital for the past 30 years and is a senior manager for the deep clean team.
The job I have applied for is in the surgical department.
I guess I will find out in the next 4 weeks whether I have passed the first stage or not.
With regards to references for the last 3 years, I have noted down my last employer but the employer before that went into liquidation so I have given my doctors details as a character reference.
I have noted down my relatives that work at the hospital.
Also, I have a clean record with regards to any CRB check they wish to carry out.
There are probably one or two things within the job discription that I have no previous experience of but I am a very quick learner and it isn't something that I would not pick up fairly quickly.
Do you think that the above would be satisfactory for them if I get an interview?0 -
Many NHS jobs are anonymous now, they won't know your name nor your age just get your application form. You would need to meet all the essential criteria in the personal specification to have a good chance of shortlisting for interview and preferably some of the desirable criteria, it's not simply the job description transferable skills are highly relevant. Shortlisting is a tick box exercise, they can't add you to the list on work of mouth.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
