Job offer at Open Day

Hi All,
I'm writing this on behalf of my cousin so I hope I get the details right. He was laid off but recently attended an open day for a call centre, it seemed to go well and they subsequently offered him £14,000 p/a to work as part of an outbound team, this sum rising to £14,500 upon successful completion of training. He has not responded yet but wondered if there is any possibility of negotiating this salary as £14,500 would not completely cover his expenses and he feels he needs around £16,000 of a basic salary.
What are his options?

He could try but call centres are well known for paying low wages. Also, if it was an open day there are probably loads of other people willing to do the job for the £14K offered.
No harm in asking but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

My experience of call centre's pay has only ever been £6.19ph
that said I was inbound with no targets
Your saying outbound - any chance there is targets involved ? as this *could* add to wages if targets met or if moves up through the ranks to team leader/supervisor (which can be quite quick in these places due to high staff turnover) this could also up the wages0
