Temporary/ Permanent Job Dilemma

Hi I would like some thoughts on my current job dilemma.
I am currently in a temporary job, which would basically be my ideal job if it was permanent. Ideal meaning just right for starting my career, but I'd be looking to progress in the long term, but it is an area that I would like to stay in.
However, it is only temporary - no definite time period, it's just ongoing, but could be up to a year - it's a new department so they're unsure at the moment how busy they'll be, so not really able to give any clues on length of time yet.
I am moving out of my parents' house in August, so could really do with a more secure job, but I am a bit reluctant to leave this job for one that I would enjoy less and would have less opportunities.
I am job-hunting, but have not applied for any new jobs recently, and am making myself feel a bit guilty because I feel like I should be constantly applying for permanent positions, but then I also don't really want to leave where I am now.
I have plenty of savings, so I can survive for up to a year without work, but that is at a last resort, I've been unemployed before and it made me really depressed. Plus I'm turning 30 in December and putting pressure on myself to get my career on the go by then.
I do have a habit of putting a lot of pressure on myself and making myself feel really guilty about not having a successful career by now, so could really just do without some outside opinions that might be a bit more rational than my own.
Just in case anyone didn't read that whole ramble above, or just a general summary of my dilemma: should I stay in temporary job that I enjoy or be hunting a permanent job even if it doesn't seem as appealing?
Also, I would like opinions on whether I should apply for jobs on lower salaries that my current one? I am usually happy to accept any salary just to get myself a job, but lately have been thinking I have been selling myself short - this is partly down to my former manager who kept telling me I shouldn't be settling for lower salaries.

Just wait till you find a job that IS appealing seriously there's no point in ending up somewhere where you're unhappy.
Wait till the job that you really want comes along - life's too short.
and I do mean too short.0
