Newbie Question: Storing Homemade Biscuits & Cakes

Shortbread is OK in an airtight container. Fruitcakes like my Guinness cake keep for days wrapped in foil. Also gingerbread/parkin keeps well.
When I was in hospital having DS1 my OH was playing host to my parents, made them a cup of tea and looked for something to go with it, found some gingerbread I'd made (and forgotten about) and offered that - apparently it was delicious...and only 3 weeks old!!Over futile odds
