Interview clothes

I am sooo excited as on Wednesday I have a very cool interview for John Lewis on Brownsea Island in the Castle. I forgot all about the application as I applied over a month ago, it turns out that they had so much interest that it took a long time to narrow the candidates down. No kidding the on-line application took me all day to complete!

They have arranged for their private boat to collect me from Sandbanks Ferry terminal and the job is for a receptionist/Admin and greeter.
I would normally wear a skirt, shirt and blazer and would feel comfortable, but as I am travelling in an unconventional way I wondered if it would be more appropriate if I dress in a trouser suit. I would not feel appropriately dressed in trousers but don't want to flash anything! Feedback would be great please:)

  • If you flash something you've probably got more chance of getting the job. Do you really think if your on a river boat you will have a Marilyn Munroe moment, where her skirt blew up to her face?

I don't think I would pull the Munroe look off at all well! Maybe more like Bridget Jones!

I am so jealous. I'd love to work for John Lewis.
Just go whatever you feel most comfortable in. If you feel good you'll come across way more positively.

Normally I'd agree with Affynity, but since this includes greeting people anyway, I'd go for a skirt over trousers - it's not a long trip on the boat.

Have you got a trenchcoat that you could wear over it for the trip over, to help hold the skirt down in case of a sudden gust of wind?

    good luck with the interview!

No trenchcoat but I do have a very smart long wool coat, so I may wear that..
    Thanks for the luck

Would something like cycle shorts or shortened leggings under the skirt help your confidence?

Sorted, after rifling through my mum's wardrobe I have found a lovely smart overcoat with lovely brass buttons that will look perfect. I will ask to borrow it... I might even change my mind and opt for a longer skirt..

I am sure your skirt wont get blown over your head. I have been on many a boat and it's never happened to me, or the Queen :)

    Good luck

I was more worried about the skirt riding up when getting in or out!

I remember reading that the queen has weights sewed into her skirts to stop that happening!

    Thanks for the luck.

Just keep one hand on the side of the skirt and you should be ok.
