I think u got the wrong end of the stick. What's closer got to do with barcode starts with 99p? Closer is a magazine, in the magazine there is a coupon if that is what u r looking for. see post 4038

You can either pay £1.30 for closer magazine or use other coupon to pay for it.

I think the wrong end of the stick is in your possession.

The poster was asking about the barcode on the coupon in Closer in order to determine its usefulness.

Some coupons don't have barcodes at all, others have "non-standard" barcodes which require shop staff overides and the product to be purchased, and most Money Off coupons have a barcode that start 99 which a scanner will automatically detect as an amount to deduct from the bill rather than add it on.

The last 4 numbers of a "99" barcode are its value and an "irrelevant" check-digit

150n (where n is the check-digit of 0 to 9) means it is worth £1.50

000n means the till operator will need to enter a value.
This usually happens with 999n since it can also indicate a value OVER £10

In this particular case the coupon is for Onken Yoghurt worth £1.39 so might (but not guaranteed to) be a "99" one that ends in 139n

I think what the katie meant is; is the coupon inside closer magazine a 99 barcode and are the last four digits 1990, thus then making the coupon NSS and worth £1.99 without entering the amount at the till. If you get me.

So what we are saying is there is a moc in Closer this week that's worth 9p more than the cover price of the magazine. Not sure I will rush out & buy it more than once, just for a 9p profit, whether or not the cashier has to key the amount in...

...but many thanks for posting it, smartcat04, I might just buy one for the free read, along with the obligatory copy of Star!

Apparently, the latest issue of Marie-Claire magazine has an offer to apply online for a free travel-sized Liz Earle cleanser and two muslin cloths. It's for the 1st 5,000 people only and it's already been posted on the freebies board (thanks to suemichelle). Since there's no need to buy the mag, it might be best to apply for it now as I expect they will all be gone within a couple of days. Here's the thread on the freebies board:

Edit: link removed as offer now closed. Wow, that was fast! :D
