When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. :D

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Good morning folks

Yay, Monday and for me first day back at work for just over a week, so today will be all about catching up on things as my job doesn't get covered while I am away.

So, today's list is.....

Take care all

  • Morning all, and thanks to candy for starting us off bright and early today. I know what you mean about work; I hate Mondays too (and Tuesdays and Thursdays). I just keep looking at my bills being paid and know it's the right thing to do at the moment and then enjoy my Stitching Witch days on Wednesdays and Fridays.

    My small things so far today:
    • Porridge for breakfast
    • Fed and watered the chickens
    • Boxed up eggs for DS3 to take home
    • Checked banking :eek:
    • Checked for surveys
    • Took dinner out of freezer to defrost
    • Made packed lunch to take to work
    Also on the list:
    • Drink free coffee/water at work
    • Do quick manual calculation of payroll now the new tax allowances have come in
    • Look at May budget using revised salary
    • Keep an eye on surveys throughout the day
    • Read library book at lunchtime - "The New You- change your life in a month" Hope it doesn't take a month to read it! :D
    • Clean out chickens after work in exchange for some eggies
    • Possibly do some quilting tonight
    I think that's all for today.

    Morning guys :wave: thanks for starting us off Candy, hope work goes better than expected. I was hating returning to work last week after 9 days off but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be in the end :)

    ooooo exciting Stitchy! I can't wait to see what will be in my paycheck next week :T

    Ok am off work sick today, so will be spending the day at home. am hoping the meds I have will resolve the problem I have and I don't need to go for a minor op later.... I have spent £40 on prescription meds this last week :eek: - so expensive!

    What can I do when I need to really just rest?

    * check banking
    * shift funds out of savings into main account to pay for festival tickets bought yesterday
    * [STRIKE]calling Aldi to see if they still have the whirly gig still in, if so I will go and collect. Really annoyed I forgot to get in yesterday while I was in town[/STRIKE] they have so I will now do a shopping list so I can use a £5 off of £40 voucher
    * used saynoto0870.com to get a number I could use in my free minutes package
    * all meals from stores - rubber chicken pasta bake
    * do a meal plan
    * try to work out what my pay for April is going to be
    * catch up with Eastenders & watch a film
    * plant some seeds
    * read book
    * take some scrap metal to breakers

    think that's all I am going to get up to. Hope the sun is shinning wherever you are x

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Morning all, thanks for the thread :)
    • Made breakfast rather than bought it
    • Took train rather than cab.
    • Made lunch to take in rather than buy it.
    • Do some batch cooking tonight as my wife did hers yesterday and I couldn't get at the kitchen!
    Unlikely to need any cash today, I simply do not need to spend it. Crazy to think that since I started (about a week ago) watching the spends again like this I have managed to save myself.... over £150 that would otherwise be utterly wasted on breakfasts, lunches and taxis.

    Quite angry that I let myself get into such sloppy habits but rather than recriminations, I'm simply using this as motivation for not falling back into it.

    My 9-in-a-row NSD run begins tomorrow, will do final check on the fridge and freezer to ensure I have all that I need - pretty sure I do, but you never know. Have a massive checklist of stuff in place haha. Scarey, hope I can get through it !
    Debt free, moved, got new stuff for the new flat - got everything I wanted and need - now just saving.

    Hi everyone :wave:

    Is it payday yet?! :(

    I’m struggling through…
    • Cheapo porridge brekkie
    • Baked apples and raisins in SC yest – was pudding yesterday and porridge topping today :D
    • Packed lunch for me and OH
    • Walked to work – didn’t buy new bus pass yet – holding out so I only need one before pay day and not two ;)
    • Checked banking and ccs – miserable story :(
    • Bit of voluntary work if I can bear it – man I’m dealing with is a nightmare…
    • Book from library instead of buying it
    • Put ‘just enough’ petrol in the car – was quite embarrassed handing over just £6 but that was all I could afford… :o
    • Emailed myself job app – need to apply before Friday – would be £3.5k payrise but longer hours and not as convenient office locn… But an application isn’t going to do any harm, is it?!
    Happy Monday everyone :grouphug:

    Big hug La E.x

    Today I have/will:

    -Breakfast was a nked bar - not great but at least from stores!

    -have made a sandwich and brought to work to avoid buying

    -will pay in cheque from recent travel claim and pick up winnings from national (loss overall but still need to collect cash!)

    -dinner from stores tonight (I got chicken out of freezer y'day and it's been in fridge overnight and today - will it be ok do you think?)

    -do a fitness dvd when get home (avoids gym costs and stops me getting bored and eating!)

    -read my book rather than watch tv (trying to read a book per month to get through everything on shelves before buying/borrowing more!)

    -have a shower and fake tan to feel better.

    -take nail polish off and re-polish. I normally get them done at a salon but trying to cut that out so polished them yesterday but don't like colour (which was free with a magazine)

    -get head down at work this week as got a horrid 3 weeks with hard technical stuff to do!
    I want to be a writer
