Tesco Swede Portions

We bought one of these yesterday. They're 75p each and the weight on the label says 400g. However, I could see that they differed greatly in size. There were scales nearby and a quick sample revealed that some weighed almost 800g.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

Were they individually priced?
I see lots of portioned veg is priced per weight, shrink wrapped and has a price printed on it individually for it's weight.0 -

No, they were 75p each. On both the Shelf Edge Label (SEL) and at the till. I expected 400g to be the minimum and a bit of variation over that, but not double the weight. That's why I thought it worth mentioning. If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

Strange. You make short comments when people complain about package sizes being changed but you point out that grown produce charged by item may vary in weight! Rather contradictory.0

There's no contradiction. They're two different problems.
Cutting swedes into exactly 400g portions must be difficult if not impossible. However, as I said above, such a large variation was surprising.
At least one other person appears to have benefitted from my observations and actions. I am here to serve.
I presume that you'd buy two 400g swedes because it would be cheaper than buying one 800g one, like the boxes of tissues.

Similar often happens with pre packed baking potatoes, my OH thinks I'm mad, but I will stand holding what I think are the biggest and then weighing up one pack in each hand deciding which I think is the heaviest.
It can be misleading, as the price for the min weight can mean that loose items are cheaper, yet if you pick out the heaviest of the pre packed that can work out cheaper than loose.
I often check weights and find it frustrating that few stores now provide scales for customers in the produce section.0 -
Thank you Steve. Well spotted. Lidl is similar price 75p and Sains £1.20.
Hadn't noticed such a size difference but will look next time.
Hopefully the trend is for mixed sizes so really should be per kg.
p.s. noticed Sains yesterday carrots in 1.5kg packs...46p per kg.0 -
The OP is correct. I bought a 400g swede in Tesco on Saturday that actually weighed 750g. The sizes did vary quite a bit and I checked the SEL and my receipt to check that I had only be charged 75p - I had.0

They are different problems but the contradiction in your attitude was not unfairly highlighted. You are going around aggressively stating that shoppers should have an encyclopaedic, eidetic knowledge of the price and costs of everything over periods of years and have no right to complain about sleight of hand price changes - but these same geniuses are, apparently, too vulnerable to know or check the size of a turnip by simply looking at it.0
