    Hiya
For my parties I usually do a 'platter' type thing with selection of cold meat ham/beef/chicken put this in middle of table and then work the other food around this I think buffets look better when stuff is mirrored around a centre piece. So centre piece would be the plate of cold meats.

Then I usually do bread rolls, crips, sausages, sausage rolls, cheese on sticks, cold potatoes, big bowls of salad etc...(that stuff can be picked up cheap/I usually do asda smartprice and then hide wrappers before anyone turns up):rotfl: :rotfl:

My SIL when her daughter made her communion she put a lovely photo of her in the middle of the table in a silver frame or maybe you could put her cake in the middle of the table if you are having one!.
My sons is next may so I hope that i get ideas from your thread too!!:T

Good luck and congratulations to your girl x:T

for the vegetarians you could maybe do a 3/5 bean salad, tomatoes or pepers stuffed with cous cous, cheese rolls, vegetarian quiche, vegetable sticks (carrot, cucumber, pepper, celery etc) and a vegetarian dip (humous, sour cream etc). pasta with sweetcorn chopped peppers and mixed with mayo.....or mix the peppers and sweetcorn with cold rice (no mayo), veg spring rolls or maybe even vegetable samosas.

thats all i can think of for now but if anything else springs to mind i will edit my post.

    Hiya

I am a veggie and in a buffet I love

    Quiche
    Biscuits
    Cracker and Cheese selection
    Cous Cous
    Egg + Mayo sandwhich
    Quorn chicken slices sandwhich
    Jacket pots
    Pasta Salad
    Pizza

Ooh and as a veggie and I am sure this applies to meat eaters too - I find it really helpful when the food is labelled - obviously just the stuff that's not too clear quite what it may contain x

Good Luck - I think you are very brave doing this yourself!

    Hi there
Home made coleslaw mmmmmm.... i make this all the time....i cant stant shop ones.. simply shred up cabbage - red cabbage looks pretty...finely slice onions..again red look nice but any do..then grated carrot and i use an organic mayo..and sometimes a squeeze of lemon to give it that fresh taste - it is so quick, especially if you have a proccessor...and you can make masses for very little..and you can always add grated cheese.
As for the layout i would go for a capital T if i was you...start with all the plates etc at the bottom of the T and then mirror the food up the length of it and off to the left and the right, so you have savoury one the main leg and going left and right, leading on to sweet stuff and cutlery, condiments and serviettes at the very end of both legs.-that way folks wont dump their food on top the serviette..which is what most do LOL....that means you can get every one through twice as quick as they will start at the bottom go up and then to the left..or right...it flows sooo much quicker that way
I hope my ramblings make sense :-)

Don't have anything helpful to add I'm afraid, but I agree with Alison, as a veggie there's nothing worse than not knowing what's safe to eat, and either making your partner try everything first or sticking to cheese on sticks and crisps!
One buffet I went to had all the veggie stuff, ie the food she'd planned as a veggie alternative, on green plates, made it really easy and meant the labels didn't get moved about!
As for the food, strawbs ideas are fantastic, but I'd be happy with a pasta salad made with beans and veg and some salad, and maybe some other little nibbles like cheese and onion rolls and crisps.
