SSP clarification

Its been a bad week and I've lost the plot - and my footy team lost today with the very last kick of the game.:(
Sick pay - SSP is not payable for the first 3 days.(waiting days) So - if an organisation has no company scheme at all then those 3 days are, in theory, unpaid.
Have I got that correct ??

Yes, you've understood about SSP properly except it's not "in theory" it's absolutely the case that the three waiting days are unpaid in the circumstances you describe.0
