cOUNCIL TAX RE BANDED

Hi Everyone
Can any one help me with my query ? HAvE just moved into a chalet bungalow which we brought in March 07. We have just had a letter from The Valuation Office to say as an extension was done 5 years ago we now have to go up a to a higher band!!!
Has anyone had the same experience and whether this can be done for something that was already done when we brought the property at a band C .
Thank for any help

When an extension is done to a property which increases the value of the property then the band will only be re-assesed when it is sold, You may be able to argue that the extension doesn't put you in to band C but you would need to get an appeal in as soon as possible.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

You must appeal or ask for a review within 6 months of owning the property so get cracking now!

Look on the voa site https://www.voa.gov.uk to see what other similar properties locally are banded at. If you think yours is wrong you can appeal online there.

Have a look at the 'council tax discussion' thread there's loads of good information there.
