I must be missing something I think, can anyone explain what the benefit would be? I'm all for anything that makes comping easier but don't understand how this would do that.

I will try to explain how it would help me.

I enter competitions mostly at the weekend. I am an end date comper. At the moment, I am trying to enter all the ones finishing next week that I wish to enter. If I had a spare hour say tomorrow evening, I might want to check if there were any finishing say Wednesdy, Thursday, or Friday that were newly listed. But in order to find this out, I might have to go through about twenty or thirty pages of green ticks and red crosses to find about 12 newly listed comps.

PS Surely BarnabySue's link is what your after. No real need to implement something which is already there, unless I've got the wrong end of the stick.

If you want to make things even more efficient, why not stop thanking the OP? Think of all that time clicking or opening threads you won't enter to just click Thanks

Or better still just don't thank some members for posting comps :-)

    Seems quite popular atm:rotfl:

A fairly standard way of comping is by end date.
Sort the posts into end date format and scan through the page to see if you want to enter a comp.
If you enter the comp you the thank the OP and green tick the post.
If you are not going to enter the comp the thank the OP and red cross the post.
When you now scan through the page you can see which comps have been entered and which you are not going to enter by the crosses and ticks- which leaves you with the uncrossed/ unticked posts to deal with.

If there was a function to filter out the posts you have crossed or ticked then it will just leave you with pages of posts you have to deal with, so you don't have to load up pages of posts you don't need to see.

The link I posted earlier is what you need, it's how I comp and couldn't do without it.

I can't get my head around your method catswiththumbs, sorry, it seems very convoluted to me. Maybe the filter would help in your case, but I don't think it wouldn't be of any benefit to me.

  • I would find this useful. I enter by thread start time usually, and use the ticks and crosses. However I am busy and can only spend limited amounts of time comping on weekdays so I will usually skip some leaving them unticked/uncrossed. E.g. because I can't tell immediately whether I want to enter and I would rather get on and do some more than take the time to work it out.

But then when I do have some spare time I'll go back and enter by end date to pick up anything I've missed that I may actually be interested in. When I'm doing this it would be helpful to be able to see only the ones I skipped the first time around. I usually have only left a couple on each page that are neither ticked or crossed which would mean if I filtered it this way, only a few pages would show up. Rather than all comps and having to click through all of the pages to find the skipped ones.

My point is that it would most benefit new compers who are starting out.
For you it would be a useless function because you are up to date, but for someone starting out.....example.........
    Imagine 300 pages of posts.
I could go through them and cross very quickly the posts of comps I do not want to or would never enter.
Now I apply the filter for crossed posts:.........
I now have only 130 pages to sort through.
If I then manage to enter 40 or 50 comps, I tick them.
Next evening apply filter for ticked and crossed...
I have 120 pages to sort through.....
Do more comping tick/ cross... next night less etc etc etc till I am up to date.
Seems logical to me that there should be a function to filter out posts you do not need to load every time.

All joking aside, pop a post in the Site Feedback Forum.

Worst they'll say is No or that it can't be done.
