Valuing assets

Hi,
I am very lucky in that I am being allowed to keep a particular asset, providing I pay the OR the value. However, the OR has valued said asset at nearly 10x what I paid for it last year. (From a proper company, I might add, not Fred down the road who wanted to sell it cheap). I have sent in the receipt as proof and am waiting for a response. Anyone else ever been in the position of a discrepancy in a valuation? I would really appreciate it if you would post your experience. I just wondered where I stood when the value difference is so extreme

Be aware, there is a huge difference between 'value' [or, market value?], and purchase price.

Asset values can rise or fall.

What the 'purchase price' happened to be is irrelevant.

[you only have to look at insurance for an example of this? Do you want your 'asset' to have an insurance value of 'what was paid for it?' Or, what it's true, or market value is worth?]

Whatever the asset is, I suggest you first obtain an expert valuation of it [for insurance purposes]....unless it is a property.

Then ..if that valuation is significantly different to the OR's, you have evidence to support your argument with them.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
