A19/P800 question please.

On behalf of a friend, she sent off a A19 form that was enclosed with a letter in regards of a P800 tax underpayment 2010/11.

It all started that she received the letter P800 back in Oct/Nov 2012 to say about an underpayment from 2010/11.

They sent her the A19 form to complete in December 2012, she completed it an sent back to them by signed for recorded delivery, but still waiting to hear.

However, they did send her a new coding notice as well earlier this year to take off a little amount week by week until matters resolve, but she contacted me yesterday morning to state that her employer has not used the code that was sent to them and herself, so she is raising this up with the employer.

She is not the one to keep on, but she asked if I would know of a timescale it could take? (She seems to believe it may be the employers fault) as others that started the job the same time as her is having the same problem, despite the fact that they passed the relevant P45 to employer on starting the job who insisted they automatically forward the details to the HMRC.

For anyone gone through the same issue, please do you know an approx timescale of how long it should take? (it's been almost 4 months since she sent the A19 form back to the HMRC).

Thank you in advance

  • Maybe it has been lost by Royal Mail or HMRC?

More to the point though if she got the P800 in autumn 2012 and it relates to 2010:11 why on earth does she think A19 is relevant in the first place?

Maybe if you posted up the circumstances of what happened to cause the underpayment you would get some help for your friend from the MSE community.

    Hi and thank you.

She mentioned some sort of form maybe I got it wrong, but they did send her a form to complete. It's possible I have the year incorrect...

She did say she posted it back by signed for recorded delivery and the status is shown with a signature from the HMRC, but that was back in Jan.

I am unclear of the full details, but she did say it's been the case for others who started the new employment the same time as herself, where HMRC states the employer forwarded a P46 and not P45. The P45 (employer part of it) was handed to the employer where they also confirmed to her by email they did forward to the HMRC. She was unaware of the P46 that was not signed by herself but her employer, so it seems they have used that and not the P45.

Other than that, I am unaware of the full details.

    Again cheers ;)
