Equal pay for the same job?

Why...invariably there is nothing in it for the employer to increase an employees salary unless that person has unique skills that will be difficult to replace. Employer politely declines a request to increase the employees salary and has now drawn a line in the sand which forces the employee to make a decission...remain on a salary which h/she is unhappy with or leave the company, perhaps leaving a job they otherwise enjoy.
Gender based equal pay claims are big business and employers ignore this at their peril.
The Stefan Cross's of this world will be more than happy to take on equal pay claims.

Recruitment is an area that's difficult to get right. Most companies will prefer to retain existing staff, then to go and look for new employees. Giving an existing employee a pay rise when they ask for one usually makes better business sense than recruiting a new staff member.0 -

You have hit the nail on the head with your example. Employers are entitled to pay a suitable salary dependant on experience. Therefore two people may be doing the same job, but if they differ vastly in levels of experience and the particular skills they have it is quite common and legal for them to be on different salaries.0 -
I totally agree if someone has more experience they deserve to be paid more. that is why this is so wrong. All of the other managers have at least 6 years experience in this role and the new starter has non!0

Please don't take this the wrong way, it is a genuine question, but why are you so concerned about the levels of pay other people are getting, if it doesn't impact on your position?
I know it's difficult to turn a blind eye, but I work in payroll and am constantly seeing salaries I don't agree with but you just have to accept that it happens and not let it get you down.
Don't forget there may be something about this new starter that you don't know about (and I am only speculating) but they may have qualifications or experience in a particular area that your colleagues do not.0 -
I just think that 2 people doing exactly the same jobs should get paid the same. It is especiallly unfair when you are expected to train new staff up to your level. I only want what's fair!0
