Hi, I’m afraid this is my first time in a forum and I'm completely lost but here goes!
My partner took out a loan with welcome finance for a car several years ago and stopped paying it about three years ago, we haven’t heard anything from them in this time 2-3years and presumed it had been written off ( I’m sure quite naively!) because when we applied for our mortgage and secured loan a year ago nothing came up on his credit history,
about a month ago a debt collection agency called us and said it wanted the debt of £6000! they said we needed to pay half within 3 days or the full amount within 6 months! needless to say, we don’t have a spare grand a month!
we offered to arrange a payment plan but they refused and said they could take us to court and attach the debt to our house and then get it re-possessed, even though we didn’t own it when the load was agreed.
I thought this was a little suspect and told them that the debt hadn’t been open when we purchased the house, they seemed to back off a little at this point but does anyone know where we stand?

I think that the chances are that there are enough issues on Welcome's loans to make them go away permanently.
