Don't Use Gas

Options
Hi, Everyone. I have a question I hope you can help me with.

I moved into my property roughly 12 months ago. The property is a rental and has both electric and gas lines. It was supplied with an electric cooker and heating, no gas appliances at all.
Recently my energy company, according to them due to recent ofgem rulings, has been putting standing charges on all their tariffs. This has led to me being out of pocket, effectively being charged for having a gas line fitted even though I don't use gas.
I have been told that because I have a gas line fitted I must have an account and as it's a rental property I can't has the gas line disconnected, my landlord refuses to do it.
What is the best way to get around this problem I have? Are NPower right to say that I must have a gas account or should I switch my gas to an energy company which doesn't charge a standing order?

Cheers

Yes, someone has to be responsible for the meter

Looks like you need a supplier \ tariff with no standing charge...

You are being charged for the metering, not just for the supply, whether you use it or not. You can switch to a NSC tariff until such time as they are abolished. Then switch to one with the cheapest standing charge.
Ask you landlord to provide gas heating and cooking, as it's about a third of the price of standard rate electrcity per kWh.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Look at ebico - they don't charge a no standing charge, and they only have a single rate, so are most likely not to introduce one.
