If this is the case then that could well be a way to do it; but it still needs the payroll dept. to make that adjustment.
My point is that the OP needs to find out from the payroll dept. what action if any they are taking, it does not matter what is right or wrong often payroll depts. do not bother or do not know how to do the right thing they just rely on the computer to get it right.

    And Amen to that brother

I once had the deputy treasurer from our local NHS hospital knocking on our door with her underpaid wages. Cheque not cash.
The only thing that is constant is change.

Well, as expected, they've messed it up. I'm ~£150 on 2 weeks wages - nevermind their "apology" payment.

Is there anything I can do? I don't want to go all guns blazing at the agency if there's no point - as I know it's HMRC who've "taken" the money, but it is their error after all...

In order to check exactly what is happening can you give the gross tax and NI figures for this payment?

In an earlier post you advised that someone was "going to check with their accounts dept how it will be processed so that I don't lose out". Did you get any advice from that person on how it would be processed?

    I got an email back from him saying;
The double payment should not have a knock on effect to the level of tax and NI you pay. The only real difference you should notice is the fact that 2 weeks tax and NI are coming off at the one time, collectively this should accumulate to the same amount.

Whether he checked with accounts or not is another story. Possible that he did and accounts don't have a clue either.

Hourly rate is £8.69 so gross weekly is £325.88.
Usual deductions are £33.80 Tax, £21.58 NI and £1 Student Loan (£56.38) giving net pay of £269.50

[Note: The "Listen to the tax man" website shows slightly different figures for year 12/13 from what is on the payslip I'm looking at now so may not be 100% accurate for this year]

As the tax year has changed (I've yet to receive a payment in 13/14)

    Gross weekly is £325.88.
    Tax £28.87, NI 21.23 and Student Loan £1 (£51.10)
    Net pay £274.78

Thus over 2 weeks I should have received ~ £549.56 - outwith their "apology" payment of £50.

What I actually got this morning was £399.60, about £150 short.

I don't have the breakdown of Tax/NI/Loan yet as my payslip gets posted and I am not at home. I have spoke to the agency guy who is currently "investigating" for me. Honestly, I can't understand what they've done as if you put the figures into the Listen to the Tax Man site for 2 weeks (with or without £50) it is still more than what I received.

What they've possibly done is not included 3 days holiday (which was accrued, but they've done it before) which gives roughly the "right" figure - ie. the one they've paid.

I guess I'll just need to wait for him to get back to me.

When you get the payslip post up the figures then we can check them properly to see exactly what has been done.
