Phone calls - do I have to?

Do I have to speak to people on the phone, or can I do everything by letter? I have longstanding anxiety, depression, panic disorder and also have Asperger's syndrome (which means I take everything literally) and I am absolutely terrified of speaking on the phone. The DMP has been approved so I am now waiting for the flak from the banks etc.

Do everything by letter, I have not spoken to a debtor in years via the phone!
All I did was make sure I put on the letter something along the lines of 'due to the considerable stress this situation is currently causing me, I request that all communication be in letter form only' then made sure that I responded quickly to any letter they sent out that required a response.
It definitely took the stress out of it for me.
Good luck

I have a hearing problem particularly on phones & do everything by email. If anyone rings just refuse to confirm your security details & tell them to write to you, then say bye & end the call.

By letter is usually better because you have written proof of everything.0

Never speak to them on the phone. Always in writing.0

It's what I did with NDR Money. Got to the point they were phoning every week, prehaps couple times a week.
Sent a letter complaining of harrasement, they said it wasn't harrasement .
After that, no more calls from them....:)0 -
Not your fault if your phone doesn't work and hangs up on people beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep ;-)Do I have to speak to people on the phone, or can I do everything by letter? Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0 -
If anyone phones you, tell them you will only communicate in writing.
This makes it easier because they can't bully you and you have a record of what's been said.
Just say that then put the phone down. They know the score and will accept it when someone draw the line.
Good luck in your debt free journey!0
