Hey,
Yeah..First post..But long time lurker.
This place usually offers the best advice/answers and I couldn't exactly work out how to word my question better for google to produce an answer, if there is one.
Okay, so I'l explain first.
Signing on, genuinely looking for work, but my adviser keep's crossing my stuff off and telling me it's wrong (Sanctioned for the second time because of this) but all the stuff I'm doing is what I was doing to look for work (If anyone wants, I can maybe take a picture of my book with her pink crosses over all my job searches if anyone's that interested)
One example;
Went to hardware shop (I know the owner)
And asked if there's any jobs going.
'What happened' Box;
Was told there's no jobs there but left my phone number with the shop owner because jobs apparently come and go.
Everything else was left blank.
She crossed this off and told me I was wrong and it's not actually 'Seeking Employment'
It angers me even now that she call's the 'Not seeking employment' because in my books, that's exactly what it is.
My wall of text has come to an end, and here come's the question.
Was I in the wrong for that?
She said JSA books had to be filled in with APPLICATIONS only, going into shops and asking for jobs and leaving details isn't looking for work.
Thank's for reading, I await your replies as I fill out my book for tomorrows imminent lashings.
(If this is in the wrong section, feel free to move)

Did you leave a CV and covering letter tailored to that organisation, if not why not? You have to apply for actual advertised vacancies, other enquiries you make are in addition. Read your jobseekers agreement.
Once you've already been sanctioned you need to pull your socks up, you are flagged as someone who is not putting in the required effort. It's not your book that counts, it's DWP rules. Getting angry will make things worse for you, try asking your advisor to let you know what else you should be doing to find work, be friendly and open minded.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I do leave my CV (No cover note, I've never been asked for one and when I have taken one, they've told me its not needed)
And I do, the only one's I have a problem with are thing's like street cleaner, it's not that the jobs below me, and I know 'Beggar's can't be choosers' but I just don't want to do them types of jobs, and I certainly won't be forced into them either.
And my first sanction was because I got food poisoning and went to the hospital 2 days before my signing day let out the day before and was still felling like..well, I don't need to be graphic. (Yes, I showed proof from the hospital)
I asked her if she could help me look for some jobs on the system once before, walked out of there with a handful of apprentice jobs 'Because that's all we got'
But I still feel that asking if there's any spaces open and leaving my details is looking for work.
Another example, which she thinks was wrong.
Applied for a job at primark in ______ (The job was a position I knew about from a friend)
Spoke with the employer and left my CV and contact details.
I forget what she said about this one but it was also crossed out in pink marker.
Thank's for the reply.0 -
I really can't understand why people find it so hard to job search. It's not rocket science. I went onto the Direct Gov website, put in my town, 10 miles and warehouse jobs. I got 86 hits. Put in sales assistants within 10 miles and got 153 hits.
OP, you are clearly not job searching correctly or with any real enthusiasm.0 -
Toneh - I don't think you've done anything wrong. I've been told by my advisor that's exactly what I should be writing in the lil booklet. I was told this was during an appointment I'd arranged to get my JSAg changed because I also had a particular advisor who was being very awkward.
The only problem I can see in what you're doing is maybe a lack of info - ie, say what Job you've applied for (unless it's a speculative application/visit) and contact info of company (address or phone number or email). Your info has to be 'checkable' and that info should make it so. They won't check any of it though. I produced a list of 20 email addresses I had written to 'on spec' and was told I could have written anything down by the 'advisor'. I told him everyone of those addresses was a genuine speculative email and he was more than welcome to mail them himself and check up on me, but he declined. 'I'm not likely to do that am I', he said. Well, if he can't bothered, thats not my problem, the info is there.
'Applied for a job at primark in ______ (The job was a position I knew about from a friend)...
Spoke with the employer and left my CV and contact details.'
In my booklet, the above would go down as 2 individual job seeking activities (I need 22 per week)
1 - Asked friend xxx about jobs at his place, he said they are hiring at the moment and gave me details of xxx vacancy.
2 - Applied for 'xxx job' at 'Primark'. Spoke to employer and left application with CV.
If I was you, I'd ask to see about getting your JSAg changed, or at least clarified.0 -
I think you would be better off registering at a few Job-search web-sites , such as cv-library/monster etc,etc and using them.
As you find any suitable jobs , use the 'Apply Online' function they have and then write these down in your booklet.
For example in the first box put 'Vacancy found at cv-library.com - Sales Manager'
In the second box put 'Applied and sent CV via web-site'
In the third box put - 'Await reply from Advertiser'
Something like that anyway!0 -
Pink marker? Love it!
Surprised you haven't been given detention nand lines and suggested to the head master for the cane...Opinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response.

I NEVER fill in stuff I have done to look for work ONLY the jobs I have actually applied to.Hey,

If I filled in what I DID instead of jobs I applied for there would be 3 books filled up in a week! LOL
You have to apply for a certain amount of jobs and show you have applied.
I fill in one per day as was told many times I fill in too many but they have to be real jobs. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Look at your agreement, how many steps and what are the steps that have been agreed with your adviser? You should be spending a few hours per day job searching. What types of work are you looking for, what experience have you got. If you are looking at retail you should also be including all major retails own sites as part of your search.0
