Getting Costco Membership

Deru

Hi all
Would like to get a Costco membership, however....
I'm not a business owner.
I don't work in any of the eligible sectors.
...however, I do have a friend who is a business owner with a Costco membership. I know you can get an additional card with a membership for your spouse/partner but obviously that's no good to me.
I also know you can apply for additional cards for employees. Do they ask for proof of employment, etc? So, question is, is it possible for me to get one through the friend? Anyone done it?
Thanks.

It's not just for employees, additional cards require proof address only if I remember correctly this is the basics gas / electric/ water / council tax.0 -
Hi
Thanks for the reply. When you say it's not just for employees, are you saying they allow members to apply for additional cards for 'friends and family'? I thought they didn't. Even at different addresses?
Would a credit card / bank statement do? Utilities bills aren't in my name. thanks.0 -
The membership holder gets a card from reception, all they have to do is put their membership number on it and sign to say that they would like so and so (any one family member / friend / worker) to get added to their account.
This person then needs to bring in I can't remember 1 / 2 proofs of address, bank statement and credit card statement should be fine.#
I sent one of these cards to my sister who lives in Birmingham, but that was 3 years ago. Every year on my renewel notice her name is there as additional member, and she's my little sis. I just pay her membership for her.
Prices have gone up since then so maybe some changes too? why not call up customer services they are very helpful and friendly then some other places.0 -
The checks they do are not exactly rigorous. If you knock up a letterhead or business card for your 'business' with your home address, and take the other required forms of ID, that should suffice.
There's no law against you describing yourself as a self-employed lion tamer (or whatever you choose), you don't actually have to be trading as such.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
lol lion tamer.
I thought they needed company registration number and some sort of proof. Thanks for the replies.0 -
Ask your friend to get you an additional card - it costs £12 plus VAT as per this link
