i was made redundant after job moved abroad and with other companies doing the same thing I made the decision to volunteer in a slightly different role to gain different experience
during this voluntary work ive had 100% attendance, timekeeping and very good feedback so when a paid job came up (in dif department) i applied thinking i was in with a good chance. On the list of skills and experience needed I had everything on the list. My manager also encouraged me and thought i would be perfect for it
problem is ive heard nothing back! I actually think its a bit rude if you're volunteering and they just dont bother to get back to you. I wonder if I chased it up would i seem pushy or keen? I really dont know what to do...

It is difficult to judge when to ask really, was there a closing date for applications, and a date for interviews mentioned? Some Days are Diamonds Some Days are Stones,Sometimes the hard times won't leave meBSC 162:beer:Banktupt 22 Oct 2008 at 10am!0

Was there any information in the job advert re: when successful candidates would hear that they'd been short listed? When the proposed interview dates would be? If those unsuccessful would would be contacted.
To me 2 weeks seems not very long if it's a large organisation. Particularly if they were expecting many applications. Was the post ONLY advertised internally?
What was the post? What level?
Do you know anyone else who applied?

Hi
I had an intervire just over 2 weeks ago, I still have not heard if I got the job, but I know 100% they will let me know, the waiting is a nightmare though. Good Luck0 -
Hi Jobseeeker
It sounds as though you’ve been doing a really good job and volunteering is often a good way to prove to potential employers that you have the skills and attitude to be an asset to them. I can certainly understand why you’re concerned about not hearing back though.
All employers are different, but due to the volume of applications some vacancies attract, some only respond to those they are taking to the next stage. Given the fact you are already working for them on a voluntary basis I can see no reason why you shouldn’t ask for feedback on your application. They may still be making their minds up, or you may have been unsuccessful on this occasion. Either way there’s nothing wrong with asking the question. Could your current line manager help with following this up if you’re not sure who to contact?
You are absolutely right to be keen. It’s a great trait to have and one employers are really keen to bring in to their workplace.
Good luck, and please let us know how you get on.

thanks all. No no interview dates, it was on their website for everyone external to see but not advertised
thanks NCS i think i will chase it up on monday, i'll let you all know what happens0 -
There's noting to stop you chasing up anonymously.
All you need to do is phone and ask if Job X, Ref: X has been shortlisted yet. I've done this, not been an issue.
And to be honest, volunteering or not, if your app dooesn't cut it politeness doesn't come into it.Opinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response.
