Is there a way to stop Debit cards being used on Gambling websites? My DH has a severe problem..self exclusion is a joke as there as so many ways around it. So is it possible to contact the bank and ask them to refuse the card being used on such sites?

I don't think they can block them. If he does it at home then a web filter like k9 is a good choice, just install it block the sites as admin and put your email in for any requests to change it.
If he has a major problem then maybe advice from one of the gambling addiction services may give you better advice
Hope you get it sorted, I see a few of my friends going down that destructive path0 -
Separate bank account and keep your card secure.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0

I would say open him a basic seperate account and put a certain amount of "pocket money" in it, it is then up to him what he does with itDebt free once - Back again | Current debt: £2479.50 - January 2025 | Make £2025 in 2025 #11 - £41/£20250

I installed RGManager onto the OH's laptop to stop it. You hold the password and all gambling sites are blocked. Can't uninstall without the password....however, reinstalling the OS is a way around it but it then comes down to trust and wanting to stop. If he doesn't want to stop he'll find a way around anything9780ninjalt wrote: »Is there a way to stop Debit cards being used on Gambling websites? Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I'm by no means an expect but have lot of experience.
In short no you can't the safest thing for gambler is no access to cash above £5 sounds harsh but can make their life very happy.
Excluding yourself from bookies doesn't really work, online can work but you literally need to go on each if the 1400 websites!
Separate account in a act of damage limitation.
Regular attendance to GA helps OH's as its a fre supply of knowledgable support.
They have to want not to gamble and that's the battle, saying they want to stop is easy when losing but when they win a bit, it's back to the memories of the good times...
I could write war and peace but not all would be relevant, regarding the card, a cash card is a great idea, you could set it up for online banking so if he needed money you could just transfer as and when required easily via an ipad or alike.
You can go very deep into this, I know people that travel a bookie free route to work, I have friends who don't go to the west end ever, just to avoid casinos. Casinos used to be easy to self exclude but now u need not be a member and as long as u win under £1000 you don't need I.D.
I feel for anyone with a gambling partner or family member as they are in a rut no different from a druggie or a alci, but with little known support and a problem that tends to be neglected by support agencies in comparison.
The adverts on tv are a joke and between casino, online football, bingo, lotto etc etc its just gone beyond a joke.
You are not alone a problem shared is a problem halved.0 -
I believe on many of the gambling sites you can limit the amount you can deposit (or stake) in a single transaction, but that will only work with each account. So all he would have to do is create another one.
You *might* be able to block gambling sites through the ISP too - many of them have filters that block access to content.0
