I would like a Steam Cleaner (advice please!)

I want to buy a steam cleaner that can clean carpets and curtains (if you can get them to clean curtains!), I have seen the Polti ones which look good, and the cheaper ones but I am not sure what the difference is between them, apart from the price!!

So if anyone can give me any further advice that would be great, or has anyone seen any good offers on them lately?

Many thanks :)

I wouldnt waste my money on the polti ones, we got the steamer for taking wallpaper off and i got the smaller hand held one to try before buying the polti and to be honest its put me off buying, i can clean everything better with hot water and soapy bubbles, i actually broke a window trying to clean one with the wee steamer so maybe thats put me off, and i only use the big steamer domesticaly for defrosting the freezers, as for curtains mine go in the washing machine so its not been an option for me but the wallpaper one i got from homebase for about £40 comes with various attatchments for cleaning and ironing but mother in law tried the ironing bit and wasnt impressed either.

Yes i might be in the minority of views but its my opinion and maybe not everyones.
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've had one like THIS for a couple of years or so , but to be honest i've hardly ever used it although the OH says it's very good for cleaning the alloy wheels on the car. I have used it recently to clean the mattress , but it is underused really and I probably would have just done as well getting one of the Earlex models.

    I had an Earlex one.

Perhaps I was expecting too much but virtually NO pressure, takes an age to heat up and has to be kept on all the while. Used it once and put it away in box. Took forever to assemble all of the components. Ended up going back to Homebase and getting refund.

Got room under the stairs now.

    IMHO....Dont Bother....Waste of money.

For getting wallpaper of. Do what the pro's do. Use a garden spray and warm water. Works all of the time unless the paper has been painted.

I do have an Earlex steamer as well , but I find it works fine for removing wallpaper. It certainly was a great help for removing all the woodchip that was in every room of our house when we moved here

I thought steam cleaners were just for cleaning
do you need special attachments to do the wallpaper?

THIS Earlex Complete Steam Cleaning Kit comes with various attatchments for different jobs such as cleaning upholstery and stripping wallpaper , but the Morphy Richards I also have has just tools for cleaning

Edited to add that as I have two steamers , I don't want people to think that I am always cleaning. Don't want my reputation improving

  • I already had an earlex wallpaper stripper and bought an accessory pack for it which has everything. Carpet cleaner window cleaner tools for small jobs etc.
