Santander 123 current account - direct debits??

Options
Me and the OH are both looking to open the above account.

However we dont seem to have 4 direct debits between us.

It has to be a direct debit to a utility company/council tax etc

We pay our nursery fees by direct debit - could that count as one?

Any advice appreciated!

It does not to have be a utility, or any other specific, DD. You can use any DD (any two DDs, to be precise) - - you just will not get any cashback unless the DD is for one of the qualifying categories.

Of course, if you have relevant DDs and aren't using them, that means you are depriving yourself of cashback.

We have a 0% credit card that we are currently using to pay for everything really while our cash has been sitting in a Santander esaver 3.3% (expiring in 2 weeks!)

Am I correct that it is best to continue paying our council tax with this credit card, rather than using that as one of the direct debits (as its only 1% cashback for council tax)?

    Thanks!

For council tax, yes probably better off with credit card, as long as the council don't charge a surcharge for paying by credit card. (My council says it passes on the card charges.) It does also depend on how long the 0% lasts : if it's only 6 months before you have to pay it off, you'll only earn 1.5% (less tax) before you have to pay it off, so it's starting to get a bit marginal.
