Food Weights con
Bought some M&S sausages last week got them home and there was only 360g in a pack although they looked the same as the standard sized 500g packs. I have been looking around and i am noticing its happening more and more across a whole range of food items. Whats happened to the standard sizes ?

It should have the pack weight on the packaging?
Sausage are not normally sold in 500g packs unless frozen and then its normally 1kg size.
Quite a few products are getting smaller. The options for M&S (or any other retailer) is either A) make the pack smallercharge more. C) loose margin. D) alter recipe.
Unless you have shares in M&S option C would be your preffered option.0 -

Normally they are sold in 454G sizes for the pre packed.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
I'm afraid that it's just one of the many little "tricks of the trade" that you have to keep an eye out for when you go shopping.
Even when a pack size goes up, you still have to compare the price per unit of weight.
As I have said before, trust a company only as far as you could spit their head office. If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

Breads another what springs to mind. 800g was the standard size but some Warburtons bread is now 700 and 750g. Put prices up if they want so people can see them, but to put standard sizes down and make you hunt for it somewhere on the packaging is just trickery in my opinion0

its not trickery. As the pack weight will be on the product on pretty much every food bought in a supermarket.
Bread used to have weigh 800g or 400g by laws.
Some people want small loaves as 800g goes to waste.0 -
They do make items look a similar size whilst actually reducing the amount inside, so you need to be very careful with what you buy.
Another way they are changing is the ingredients/consistencies of items. I had some Heinz Tomato Soup earlier and it's much thinner than it used to be - far more watery.
They are getting cleverer, albeit only until I saw the contents.0 -

With 20% of bought food being thrown away, it's probably a good thing that pack sizes are getting smaller. I think it's a preferred option to prices going up.0
