Jeepers, someone asks a pretty normal question about schooling and look what it turns into.
This side v. that side.
Welcome to Northern Ireland! It's a nice place really...once you get past the catholic/protestant thing. The best bit is, you're even catholic or protestant if you're not religious!0 -

Well an earlier poster said they favoured a diverse society, so there's a step towards multiculturalism anyway.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -
My word!
This thread seems to have taken a weird, but perhaps a typically NI turn!
To answer the OP.
There are very very many excellent primary school in South and East Belfast. There are some which are not so good but they would mostly be closer to the city centre.
There are state schools, catholic schools and integrated schools. Many of the state schools in the more middle class areas are also very integrated in all but name. They attract pupils from many different backgrounds and everyone gets along very well without anyone noticing or caring where you do or do not hang your hat on a sunday.
There is data available on the Education and Library Board sites which will give you an idea of the demographics of school. Numbers of kids who qualify for free school meals, special needs etc which will give you some indication as to whether they might suit your child.
There are so many schools available that is it very difficult to give you a list unless you can narrow down the area you are thinking of.
Another consideration to take into account is that your 5 year old will become an 11 year old in the blink of an eye and so Post Primary provision might be something to think about when looking at houses.0
